Oyako no Ki, Rising Cloud
An hour before sunset at the Parent and Child Trees, the cloud drew itself into an opening above them during one 61-second exposure. A signed, numbered black and white edition on cotton rag. Free replacement if it arrives flawed, and a 30-day return if it does not feel right on your wall.
About the photograph
I made this at Oyako no Ki in Biei on 7 March 2018, at 16:34, about an hour before sunset. My habit is to wait and shoot. I test different exposure lengths for the right movement in the cloud, then keep shooting until I catch a shape I like. This one is a single one-minute exposure, and in it the cloud drew itself into the opening above the trees.
What it does for the room
The frame is tall, so it suits a narrow wall: beside a bed, above a console, or at the end of a hallway. Over a sofa or bed, choose 24×36 or 40×60. For a smaller wall, 16×24. The tones run from soft white snow to warm mid grey, with no harsh black, so the print sits easily next to light oak, linen and stone. It reads as quiet rather than cold.
Real photograph
One exposure, made on location. No composites, no generated content. Tone and light are refined in editing, as with any fine-art print.
Where it fits
Living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and quiet workspaces in Japandi, Scandinavian and minimalist homes. For someone who has stood in Biei in winter, or who loves Japan and calm rooms, it is a gift with a real place and a real afternoon behind it.
