Japandi Wall Art
A waning moon, still up ten minutes after sunrise, over bare trees in Biei’s snow. Soft, low-contrast black and white, left as gentle as the morning was. Free replacement if it arrives flawed, and a 30-day return if it does not feel right on your wall.
About the photograph
This is a roadside frame, made at 06:09 on 8 March 2018, about ten minutes after sunrise. The moon is what makes it: a waning moon, a day short of its last quarter, still up in the morning sky. It was overcast, with no snow falling, no wind, about -10C. The sky was not dark, so there is little contrast, and I kept it that way rather than forcing it.
What it does for the room
Most of the frame is open sky, so it rests the eye rather than filling the wall. The tones are soft greys, not hard black, so it sits easily with light wood, linen and stone instead of looking cold. Over a bed or a sofa, choose 30×30 or 40×40. For a narrow wall, a hallway or a shelf, choose 12×12 or 20×20. 24×24 suits a reading corner or a wall beside a window.
