Signed limited edition
Christmas Tree, Wind Lines
Snow falling on Biei’s Christmas Tree, photographed from the far side of the crowd. Of all the Christmas trees I have seen, this is the one that looks like the idea of one. Signed and numbered, on cotton rag. Free replacement if it arrives flawed, and a 30-day return if it does not feel right on your wall.
About the photograph
The Christmas Tree is famous among visitors, so I went to see it in March 2018. It was my first time there. Snow was falling while I shot, and the wind was light. Many people stand at the busiest point, so I set up off to the side, where a few dry branches broke through the fresh snow as my foreground. Of all the Christmas trees I have seen, this one looks most like the idea of one: not too big, not too small, standing alone in the field.
What it does for the room
The print is mostly open white space, so it settles a wall rather than filling it. Above a sofa or a bed, choose 40×50 so it reads as a finished piece. Over a console, dresser or in a hallway, 24×30 or 16×20 sits well. The tones are soft greys and textured snow rather than hard black, so they sit warmly beside light wood, linen and stone.
Real photograph
One exposure, made on location. No composites, no generated content. Tone and light are refined in editing, as with any fine-art print.
Where it fits
Living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and reading corners in Japandi, Scandinavian and quiet minimalist homes. As a gift, it suits someone who has stood in Biei in winter, or anyone who wants a calmer wall, and it comes with a story to tell: one tree, one hill, one morning of falling snow in Hokkaido.
