Biei Christmas Tree
The Christmas Tree of Biei standing alone above wind-shaped snow, made on my first visit in March 2018. A calm black and white print with room to breathe above a sofa or bed. Free replacement if it arrives flawed, and a 30-day return if it does not feel right on your wall.
About the photograph
This is the widest view I made of the Christmas Tree that March morning in 2018. The wind had cut a low ledge into the fresh snow, and it runs from the bottom of the frame toward the tree like a path. Over the hill the grey sky was streaked with lighter bands. It is a single instant, not a long exposure, so every edge of the snow stays crisp.
What it does for the room
This is a wide, landscape frame, so it sits well above a sofa, a bed or a long sideboard. For the space over a sofa or a queen bed, 24×36 or 20×30 fills the wall without crowding it. For a hallway, a desk or a narrow wall, 12×18 or 16×24 is enough. The square crop, from 12×12 to 40×40, suits a single wall in a bedroom or a pair beside a window, and the 4:5 crop, from 8×10 to 40×50, fits a shelf or a standard frame. The picture is mostly soft white and grey with one dark tree, so it reads as quiet rather than cold, and those greys sit easily with light oak, linen, stone and plaster.
